this is love

that you came to us,
ray of light rising
making dawn to break for the first time,
shining into thick blackness
to shatter darkness of grim folly,
thawing numbness of mirky heart.

quietly growing, patiently waiting,
then beauty blossoms from bud of
seflessness - the crowning, petals of
meekness freedom healing restoration,
majesty's song becomes strewn over our
aching heart, broken bones, as you walk among us.

beaten and broken with scarlet brow,
hung up for your enemies,
bearing fire of just wrath
quenching the insatiable - torment unknowable -
yet mountains tremble and earth shakes -
heralds glorious splendour of true beauty!

ascent to history's pinnacle completed
as you rise victorious in brilliant light,
life reigns and death is put to flight.
grace springs abundant from mercy's seat,
your death on the tree of life,
bringing justice as mystery's unveiling.

still we mock you with pride's spittle,
scorning royal garment to prefer rags of self-righteousness,
yet you bid us come to your arms wide-open,
faithful, you walk among us to restore and make new,
lighting our darkness, pleading to win us,
washing our feet with your tears of grace.

this is love.
